Winning the Internet

Driving engagement on Facebook

After a great run, the Winning the Internet blog has been retired. However, you can still keep in touch with New Media Mentors here.

NPR recently conducted a pretty interesting experiment. They looked at what kinds of local news stories drive the most engagement (likes, shares and comments) on Facebook. They took a closer look at the most popular stories and found that they fit into nine categories.

We were drawn to this infographic because it neatly summarizes some of the same trends we’ve been seeing. Keep these categories in mind the next time you’re thinking about posting something to Facebook. Better yet, do the same kind of analysis with your own posts.

Check out the infographic below (created by NPR), or the full story for additional info.
