Are nonprofits raising money with social media?

The 3rd annual Nonprofit Social Benchmark Report is hot off the presses. Allyson Kapin has a good post summarizing the key findings over at Frogloop.

But let’s focus on raising money. “Can I raise money with social media?” is one of the most common questions we hear. There are enough stories of an organization raising a large amount of money through Facebook or another platform that many organizations become interested in social media because of the fundraising potential.

The Occupy Network

Our friends at Fission Strategy have cooked up something really special with the developers at CrowdTangle. Ever since Occupy Wall Street first setup camp on September 17th, there has been a proliferation of facebook groups. Some of them are small, some of them have become very popular. Whether you’re an activist seeking to make change under the occupy banner or a blogger or journalist trying to tell the story of the movement, it’s hard to follow everything at once. Well, on Facebook that’s now been changed with this really smart application of technology to social media.

Demystifying Google Grants

Google’s grant program represents both a terrific opportunity for non-profit organizations and a source of confusion and frustration for most of them. It sounds pretty easy on the surface, Google is giving you $10,000 a month in ad words and you can increase that to $40,000 a month if you’re consistently using the $10,000 up. It can be quite difficult to spend even a fraction of that $10,000 if you don’t employ the right strategies.
