Winning the Internet

Friday Linx: Fat cat edition

After a great run, the Winning the Internet blog has been retired. However, you can still keep in touch with New Media Mentors here.

Friday Linx is a recurring feature on our blog. We’re aiming to bring you a collection of links worth a read and cute cat video to ease you into the weekend. Below you’ll find items on Facebook’s new Timeline for pages, Google+, donate buttons, and making things go viral.

Onto the links!

There have been a bunch of great posts about using Facebook’s new Timeline feature for pages. Beth Kanter’s got a good one about creating a cover image without hiring a designer. Lunametrics breaks down the Timeline features and gives specs and suggestions for each one. And, AdAge has got a good post about embracing and adopting Timeline vs migrating your existing profile.

Google’s +1 button’s got a new look. It will be available to everyone in the near future.

Katya offers up tips on getting more people to click on your site’s donate button.

Finally, AdAge suggests that it’s not influencers that make things go viral, it’s close friends.
